Wildman Chalmers Design is a growing, highly collaborative studio firm looking to hire a creative, detail-oriented Sr. Interior Designer with 10-15 years of professional experience. Our office is currently located in Pittsburgh (free parking) and we work in a non-corporate, flexible studio environment. We are passionate about design, and our portfolio includes both renovation and new construction residential, commercial and hospitality work. Most of our projects are located in the greater Pittsburgh area, and we have a strong commitment to client satisfaction and creating thoughtful, well-designed spaces. We’re looking for highly motivated applicants who are able to multi-task and work independently on projects from the conceptual design phase through construction administration.

Responsibilities will include:
  • Establishing and maintaining project schedules, staying within the budget as projects progress, and communicating with client, consultants, and designers as milestones or deadlines are met or change.
  • Provide task allocation to staff and estimate designer hours for staffing sheet while working closely with the Project Manager and Principal to execute project plans and effectively execute fee management.
  • Develop advanced level designs, have an advanced grasp of project development and production processes, and have an advanced ability to work cooperatively with the Project Architect, Project Manager and Principals.
  • Demonstrate advanced interpersonal skills to lead the project team successfully through the design process.
  • Provide day-to-day mentoring and guidance to design staff in the performance of their duties. Assist in the education and development of staff assigned to the project.
  • Monitor and review the design team’s quality of work and execution of design, and ensure all results meet the established design goals for the project.
  • Regularly evaluate the performance of designers, participate in designers’ performance reviews, and share assessments with Project Managers and Principals.
  • Promote design excellence for each project and evaluate and establish the level or potential for design quality on each project with regards to client expectations as well as internal goals for the project.
  • Develop and demonstrate expertise in core markets, including knowledge of design trends in those markets. Seek out new ideas and rely on network of designers, vendors and product representatives for information and benchmarking opportunities.
  • Work with new leads to better integrate interior architecture at the beginning of the project.
  • Assist with converting existing architectural client projects into additional interior design projects.
  • Participate in/lead client interviews and assist with proposals creation to better understand scope and clients’ needs.
  • Extensive strong understanding and application of interior design principles, practices, and concepts.
Requirements:
  • Bachelor's degree in Interior Design from an accredited institution.
  • Master's degree in Interior Design a plus.
  • NCIDQ certification.
  • LEED or WELL accreditation encouraged.
  • 10-15 years of progressive professional experience.
  • Business acumen
  • Mentoring experience
  • Extensive working knowledge of AutoCAD, Revit, and Sketch‑Up, with an emphasis on 3D presentation.
  • Experience in Lumion, Bluebeam, Adobe Creative Suite, and Microsoft Project or other scheduling software a plus.
  • Collaborative, resourceful, disciplined & quick-learning
  • Experience with a broad range of project types preferred
  • Strong passion for both design and the technical aspects getting a project built
  • Must live in Pittsburgh or willing to move to Pittsburgh as this is a mostly in-office position.
