Job summary

Sandia National Laboratories seeks a mid‑career Integrated Photonic Scientist/Engineer with emphasis on silicon photonics to lead development and evaluation of photonic technologies for security missions, including communications, sensing, and neuromorphic computing. Onsite work is required.

Responsibilities include research, design, testing, leadership of teams, and collaboration with partners to deliver milestones and reports to sponsors.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree with 5+ years of directly relevant experience or equivalent.
• Ability to obtain and maintain a DOE Q-level (or DOD equivalent) security clearance.
• Graduate degree in Electrical Engineering or related field with independent research.
• Ability to work independently and collaborate in a multidisciplinary team.
• Strong verbal and written communication abilities.

Responsibilities

• Perform research and analysis on photonic devices and microsystems (design, fabrication, characterization).
• Develop test and evaluation plans with objectives, metrics, and lab experiments.
• Identify technology gaps from device and system perspectives for national security applications.
• Lead and mentor post-docs, students, and staff to achieve milestones.
• Generate presentations and detailed reports for management and sponsors.
• Engage with internal and external partners and sponsors across institutions.
• Develop strategy and vision for photonic research for security applications.
• Publish findings in journals/conferences and pursue IP when applicable.
