Job summary

Kent is seeking a Principal I&C Engineer based in Houston, TX to lead engineering efforts across multi‑discipline projects. You will interact with disciplines, corporate networks, vendors, and clients to successfully execute projects and meet schedule, scope, and budget requirements.

Responsibilities include delivering technical deliverables, maintaining quality, developing estimates, reviewing specifications, and supporting safety and FAT/SAT processes.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in engineering or equivalent.
• Fifteen (15) years or more of relevant experience in refining and petrochemicals facilities.
• P.E. license (preferable in the State of Texas) or able to obtain by comity and NCEES license required.
• Site visit experience and working knowledge of measurements for level, flow, pressure, temperature, density and control valves.
• Broad range of experience in sizing and specifying instruments such as flow, level, pressure, temperature, control valves and regulators, relief devices.
• Experience with flow elements including orifice plates, Coriolis meters, venturi, wedge, Vortex, ultrasonic.
• Experience with Fire and Gas detection is a plus.
• Experience with Analysers is a plus.
• Experience in DCS, SIS, ICSS and PLC.
• Technical support in Loops, Complex Loops, Alarm Management, Operator Stations, Engineering Stations, Redundancy Options, Fiber and CAT6 Connections, Local/Remote I/O, Hardwired/Wireless I/O, RIE, Termination details.

Responsibilities

• Lead engineering activities and the development of technical deliverables to meet schedule, scope, budget and quality for multi-discipline projects.
• Collaborate with all disciplines, client counterparts, and vendors to ensure efficient, cost-effective designs with constructability aligned to project requirements.
• Follow company quality procedures and maintain auditable quality records across all project phases.
• Coordinate with engineering and design teams to meet schedules and hours budgets.
• Develop man-hour estimates with PM and cost teams and manage change impacts.
• Perform periodic design reviews ensuring compliance with specifications, codes and contract requirements.
• Prepare or review specifications and data sheets for materials/equipment and procurement packages.
• Evaluate vendor quotes and perform technical bid evaluations for I&C equipment.
• Provide I&C mark-ups to P&IDs following MOC processes per client specs and project requirements.
• Develop instrument sizing calculations and review others’ calculations for flow, level, pressure and temperature.
• Recommend instrument locations and wake frequency; be familiar with PLCs, DCS, ICSS, SIS.
• Support project safety reviews (HAZOP, LOPA, PHA) and SIL reviews/calculations.
