Job Overview

ACS is seeking a Senior Instrumentation & Controls Engineer to support and lead our Michigan-based I&C team, working closely with the I&C Manager to provide mentorship, guidance, and oversee project execution. This position can be based out of our Verona, WI or Troy, MI offices.

Key Responsibilities
  • Support and mentor the I&C team in Michigan.
  • Develop and review control system architecture, P&IDs, control sequences, and design specifications.
  • Conduct risk analyses and hazard assessments.
  • Create project documentation including responsibility matrices, instrument indexes, and BOMs.
  • Design and review wiring schematics and control panel layouts.
  • Program and integrate HMIs and PLCs from brands like Allen Bradley, Siemens, GE, Wago, etc.
  • Perform system tests, onsite startup, validation, and troubleshooting.
  • Develop wiring schedules and scope of work documents for contractors.
  • Calibrate instrumentation and tune PID loops.
  • Validate programming to ensure system operation per control sequences.
Minimum Requirements
  • Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering.
  • At least 8 years of experience in PLC system design, programming, and startup.
  • Extensive ladder logic programming experience.
  • Experience with engine test cell instrumentation & control design, troubleshooting, and commissioning.
  • Ability to interpret and create P&IDs.
  • Strong client service skills and ability to manage multiple projects.
  • Excellent technical writing and communication skills.
  • Willingness to travel (25-40%) for site visits and commissioning.
  • Self-motivated with problem-solving skills.
