Qualifications

• 7+ years of experience in relevant roles preferred.

• Knowledge in I&C systems, hardware, software, theory of operation, testing, qualification, and plant start-ups.
• Ability to think strategically and take decisive action once the necessary information has been gathered.
• Ability to critically evaluate information and the boldness to ask questions when things don’t make sense.

SHINE Technologies is seeking a Senior Instrumentation & Controls (I&C) Engineer who will lead designing, programming, and managing automated control systems for scientific instruments, such as neutron generators and tritium handling systems, and integrating those instruments into production facilities. Additionally, the ideal candidate will act as a technical expert and team leader. They will bridge the gap between high level project management and hands‑on engineering execution.

The base salary range for this position is $120,000 - $155,000 per hour plus a comprehensive compensation package. Our salary ranges are determined by role, level, and location.

Duties and Responsibilities:

Specific duties and responsibilities of the Senior I&C Engineer include, but are not limited to:

• Set the technical and operational pace for the group
• Direct end-to-end delivery, coordinate cross-functional planning, and communicate directly with stakeholders, project managers, and company leadership.
• Align software architecture with business strategy
• Shape cross platform vision and work with the organization to where ambiguity exists to decide on core technologies to adopt for the future
• Mentorship of team members
• Strengthening team culture
• Represent the technical team outward to the organization and ensure that engineering efforts drive overarching business goals
• Collaborate with managers to define and handle requirements
• Designs major features, optimizes system performance, ensures code quality through code reviews, and tackles architectural hurdles

Requirements

• 7+ years of experience in relevant roles preferred.
• Bachelor’s degree in electrical engineering or software engineering or equivalent experience.
• Knowledge in I&C systems, hardware, software, theory of operation, testing, qualification, and plant start-ups.
• Ability to think strategically and take decisive action once the necessary information has been gathered.
• Ability to critically evaluate information and the boldness to ask questions when things don’t make sense.

The following are considered a plus:

• Experience in nuclear analog and digital instrumentation, control, and monitoring.?
• Knowledge of nuclear safety related systems desired but not required (NQA-1).
• Understanding of appropriate cable shielding, type, radiation tolerance, and separation by safety train.

Working Conditions and Physical Effort:

• Moderate physical activity. Requires handling of average weight objects up to 50 pounds.
• Fine motor coordination and strong depth perception is beneficial.
• Exposure to radiation fields (within regulatory dose limits), requiring comfort working in radiologically controlled areas with dosimetry badges and monitoring.
• Work environment involves some exposure to hazards or physical risks, which require following basic safety precautions and wearing specific Personal Protective Equipment.

Eligibility for employment is conditioned on the applicant’s ability to qualify for access to information subject to U.S. Export Controls. Additionally, applicant’s eligibility may be conditioned based upon meeting the Nuclear Regulatory Commission requirements for access to Safeguards Information, which typically requires a pre-employment drug screen, fingerprinting and criminal background check.
