Job summary

Valero is seeking a Senior Instrument Engineer to provide daily support to the assigned operation line team, leading control and instrument activities and ensuring high reliability across hardware and software platforms at the Texas City refinery.

The role includes designing and maintaining DCS graphics, systems, alarms, and safety instrumental programs; directing contractor work; and developing long-term instrument upgrade plans, with on-site responsibilities at the Valero Texas City Refinery.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s or higher level degree in Engineering required.
• 5 years of experience in all phases of instrument/electrical systems design and installation required.
• Able and willing to work on-site, in-person at the Valero Texas City Refinery, required.

Responsibilities

• Creates or revises loop, field junction box, marshalling and process instrument drawings.
• Provides orifice calculations/specifications, valve sizing/specifications, and miscellaneous instrument specifications for Operations, Maintenance, and Engineering.
• Maintains Honeywell and Foxboro DCS; revising graphics, group displays, alarms, tuning, and DCS hardware.
• Maintains information for Dataloggers and instrument files/index; preps requisitions for projects.
• Troubleshoots instrument problems for Operations, Maintenance, and Engineering.
• Checks P&ID’s for correct instrumentation and conformance to Valero standards for changes management and project work.
• Attends project review meeting for reviewing process and instrument diagrams (P&ID’s).
• Plans and supervises the work of instrumentation engineering and construction contractors.
• Designs, implements, and maintains Safety Instrumental Systems; evaluates and implements new instrument technologies.
• Develops five-year plan for instrument upgrade projects.
• Provides training and develops training plans for I&E Technicians.
