Job Description:

The Instrument and Control Engineer position will ensure pragmatic solutions are implemented for management of risk, production efficiency, plant reliability, defect elimination, and engineering standardization. This includes work related to instrumented protective systems, process control systems, and telecommunications systems, supporting safe, reliable, and compliant operations.

Key Accountabilities:
  • Provide technical assistance to Operations to resolve facility problems related to instrumentation, controls, safety systems, fire and gas, digital security, telecommunications, and measurement.
  • Serve as asset barrier owner for P6 BPCS, P7 SIS, P8 Alarm and Operator Response, and M6 Fire & Gas barriers. Monitor and evaluate barrier health, supporting gap closure actions.
  • Implement pragmatic solutions for risk management, production efficiency, maintenance, defect elimination, related to instrumented protective systems, process controls, and alarms, ensuring safe and compliant operations.
  • Lead or support root cause analysis, failure analyses, inspection result analysis, and solution implementation, including small projects.
  • Support Management of Change processes from an I&C perspective, including risk assessments and workpack development.
  • Develop and update Equipment Strategies based on specifications, feedback, and maintenance data.
  • Ensure inspection, testing, maintenance, and condition monitoring tasks align with Equipment Strategies.
  • Perform reliability analysis on instrumentation and control equipment, identify gaps, and develop corrective plans.
  • Provide I&C expertise in regional actions, resolving complex technical issues involving instrumentation and control equipment.
  • Support Management of Change for site projects and modifications.
  • Contribute to hazard identification and risk assessments with I&C input.
  • Participate in safety incident and production deferral investigations as an I&C expert.
  • Ensure cybersecurity controls are in place and barriers are managed proactively.
  • Coordinate activities with onshore and offshore contractors to ensure quality, safety, and cost-effectiveness.
  • Document findings, share lessons learned, and incorporate improvements.
Essential Experience and Job Requirements:
  • Minimum 10 years industry experience, preferably in upstream oil/gas, refining, or petrochemical sectors. Offshore deepwater experience is a plus.
  • Extensive experience with instrumentation and controls, including design, installation, and calibration of pressure, temperature, flow sensing, fire and gas, level sensing, and valve actuation.
  • Ability to read, review, redline, and create P&IDs, loop diagrams, datasheets, cause and effect diagrams, electrical schematics, and wiring diagrams.
  • Ladder logic and functional block programming experience.
  • Experience in root cause failure assessments for instrumentation equipment.
  • Knowledge of Management of Change principles and processes.
  • Experience with functional safety lifecycle activities, including HAZOP/LOPA, SIL verification, and Safety Requirements Specifications.
  • Technical knowledge of electrical equipment in hazardous areas.
  • Permit to Work in the USA and willingness to travel offshore.
