Axiom in Portland, OR is seeking a Lead Installer who can manage complex retail install projects from front to finish. You’ll travel, coordinate with GCs and site supers, troubleshoot on-site, and push for quality while keeping schedules tight.
You’ll lead crews, communicate clearly with clients, and make sound decisions to avoid rework. You bring hands-on tools, strong field judgment, and a calm, assertive presence on site.
We’re looking for a Lead Installer who is an absolute ace. Someone we can trust to figure it out.
The hours aren’t always pretty. Days, nights, weekends, long days, weird schedules; whatever it takes to get the job done. You’re good with all of that.
You know how to install. You know how to troubleshoot. You know how to look at a problem, figure out what’s actually wrong, and make a plan. If there's a change in plans, you know who to call and what to ask for. But before any of that, you’ve already walked the job, start to finish in your head and made note of the stumbling blocks, the what-ifs, and the things that nobody put in a drawing.
You’re also good with people. You can walk into a client's space, take charge without being a jerk, and make things happen without making it a big production. You make the client feel like they’re in good hands, you keep stakeholders in the loop, and you understand the importance of using the right language for the right audience.
This is a lead role, and it comes with the authority to match. You’re coordinating with GCs, site supers, and other trades to weave the work under tight deadlines. You understand the crush to get the CO at the end of a construction job and how crucial a clean carpet can be for a retail opening. You know when to push, and you’re the one to call a stop when something isn’t right, because we’d rather eat an hour than a go-back.
This work means nights, weekends, and travel. None of this is a surprise to you, and you understand the varied nature of our industry. But we also understand that your life doesn’t stop when you leave for a job.
We make a point of keeping travel assignments reasonable, typically 1–2 weeks maximum. When a project requires a longer commitment, we can rotate crews so our installers can get home. We believe being a great installer shouldn't mean being away from your family for weeks or months at a time.
And when you travel, we pay you for your time. Travel time from PDX to your destination hotel is paid, and we provide a competitive per diem for both travel days and onsite days.
We also give our installers the resources and trust they need to take care of business in the field, including a company-provided spending card for legitimate job-related expenses and unexpected needs while traveling.
A current and local license is required with a clean driving record. Company vans or rented vehicles are available, and when you use your personal vehicle, we provide competitive mileage reimbursement.
You’ll be expected to have your own personal hand tools and some power tools, but Axiom provides the larger, specialized, and more expensive equipment needed to get the job done right.
What makes Axiom different from the other install jobs you’ve had is that we build what you install. Heck, sometimes you build what you install.
The work you do comes out of our 75,000-square-foot shop, full of people you'll be collaborating with and working beside. When you’re off the road, you’re in the shop working with the build team. And when something gets crated badly or fights you on site, you have the opportunity to get the needed changes into production for next time.
You’re not just installing someone else’s work and moving on to the next job. You’re part of the entire process.
