Senior Inpatient Facility Medical Coder - National Remote

As a Senior Inpatient Facility Certified Medical Coder, you will provide coding services directly to providers, ensuring our documentation standards are met. This is a virtual, remote position requiring candidates to be highly organized, self-starters, and well-versed in technical applications. Prior success in a remote environment is preferred.

Schedule: Full-time (40 hours/week) with at least one weekend day. Employees can choose between Tuesday-Saturday, Sunday-Thursday, or work both weekend days, including occasional overtime.

We offer 4 weeks of virtual training from 8:00 AM to 5:00 PM, Monday-Friday.

You will have the flexibility to telecommute from anywhere within the U.S.

Primary Responsibilities:

  1. Identify appropriate ICD-10-CM and ICD-10-PCS codes for inpatient hospital services, understanding their impact on DRG with reference to CC/MCC, following official and client-specific coding guidelines.
  2. Abstract additional data elements during chart reviews when needed.
  3. Adhere to ethical coding standards established by AAPC and/or AHIMA.
  4. Maintain performance levels in coding quality and productivity as per Optum360 standards.
  5. Provide documentation feedback to providers and query physicians when appropriate.
  6. Stay updated with coding knowledge through review of materials disseminated by management.
  7. Participate in department meetings and educational events.
  8. Maintain records of coded, held, or missing charts.

Required Qualifications:

  • High School Diploma/GED or higher.
  • Professional coder certification from AHIMA and/or AAPC (RHIA, RHIT, CCS, CCS-P, CPC, or CPC-H), maintained annually.
  • At least 3 years of acute care inpatient coding experience.
  • At least 2 years of experience in a Level I trauma or teaching hospital, with complex procedures and trauma cases.
  • 2+ years of ICD-10-CM and PCS coding experience.
  • Ability to pass pre-employment requirements including drug screening and background checks.
  • Availability to work the scheduled hours with flexibility for occasional overtime and weekend work.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Outpatient facility coding experience.
  • Experience with OSHPD reporting and encoder systems like 3M, eCAC, EPIC.
  • Proficiency in Windows, Microsoft Excel, and EMR systems.

The hourly salary range is $23.70 to $46.35, based on experience, location, and credentials. Benefits and incentives are included, subject to eligibility.
