Job summary

Kirby Inland Marine Lp is seeking a Wheelman to manage the vessel and barges, supervise crew, and ensure adherence to USCG regulations. You will report to the Captain and shoreside operations, with required credentials including Master/Mate of Towing Vessels on Inland Waters and Western Rivers, and radar/radio licenses.

The role demands strong safety discipline, ability to work away from home, and the capability to maintain logs and operate in coastal and river environments.

Qualifications

• Must hold a Master or Mate of Towing Vessels on Inland Waters and Western Rivers.
• Valid TWIC, USCG medical certificate, radar endorsement and Radio/FCC license.
• Usual licensing requirements and ability to work in the US.

Responsibilities

• Train crew on safety procedures and safe operations.
• Navigate the Intercoastal canal and Mississippi river system, using radio and radar.
• Supervise daily vessel maintenance and housekeeping.
• Oversee barge transfers and fueling operations.
• Ensure compliance with USCG regulations and company policies.
• Represent the company with customers at the dock.
• Maintain daily logs while on watch.
• Act as on-site coordinator during emergencies.
