Job summary

Google in Sunnyvale, CA is seeking a Senior Software Engineer, Infrastructure to lead the virtualization subsystem development at Google scale. You will design and implement Rust-based VMMs and related isolation layers across millions of production hosts.

The role emphasizes automation for build, CI/CD, observability, and systems programming. A strong foundation in distributed infrastructure and kernel-level concepts is essential for this position. In-person interviews are common.

Qualifications

Bachelor’s degree or equivalent practical experience.
5 years of software development experience (C, C++, Go).
3 years testing, maintaining, or launching software; 1 year in design/architecture.
3 years building large-scale infrastructure or distributed systems.
Experience in systems programming, kernel development, and virtualization.
Experience in core infrastructure (VMs, OS, IaaS, networking, storage, security, hypervisor).

Responsibilities

Lead the development of the virtualization subsystem (VMM, CHV) at Google scale.
Develop tooling to support engineering practices in virtualization and systems programming.
Design and implement automation frameworks for build, CI/CD, and qualification testing for Rust-based VMMs.
Support the delivery of the virtualization layer across millions of production hosts.
Build out observability framework for VM health and I/O performance.
