Whitaker Companies is partnering with a client in Houston, TX to identify a Senior Infrastructure Engineer who will manage and modernize a complex hybrid IT environment. This hands-on role spans the full technology stack—Azure cloud, on‑premises infrastructure, virtualization, networking, security, and data center operations—and requires a generalist who can drive modernization initiatives across teams.

Qualifications

• 5+ years of experience in Infrastructure Engineering or related role.
• Strong experience supporting Microsoft technology environments.

Responsibilities

• Manage and support hybrid infrastructure environments consisting of Azure cloud and on-premises systems.
• Administer Microsoft 365 technologies, including Exchange Online, SharePoint Online, and Intune.
• Support Azure services, identity management, security controls, and cloud infrastructure initiatives.
• Maintain and optimize Citrix environments.
• Support VMware infrastructure within a highly virtualized environment.
• Manage server infrastructure, storage platforms, and data center operations.
• Monitor, troubleshoot, and improve networking and security systems.
• Lead and participate in infrastructure projects and modernization efforts.
• Ensure infrastructure reliability, performance, security, and scalability.
• Develop and maintain infrastructure documentation, standards, and best practices.

Whitaker Companies is partnering with a client in Houston, TX to identify a Senior Infrastructure Engineer who will play a key role in managing and modernizing a complex hybrid IT environment.

This position is ideal for a hands-on infrastructure professional who enjoys working across the full technology stack, including Microsoft cloud technologies, on-premises infrastructure, virtualization, networking, security, and data center operations.

Our client is looking for someone who understands how all aspects of infrastructure work together. This is not a highly specialized role focused on a single technology. Rather, it is an opportunity for an experienced infrastructure professional who has supported a broad range of systems and enjoys solving complex technical challenges.

This position requires working onsite in Houston, TX five days per week.

Key Responsibilities

• Manage and support hybrid infrastructure environments consisting of Azure cloud and on-premises systems
• Administer Microsoft 365 technologies, including Exchange Online, SharePoint Online, and Intune
• Support Azure services, identity management, security controls, and cloud infrastructure initiatives
• Maintain and optimize Citrix environments
• Support VMware infrastructure within a highly virtualized environment
• Manage server infrastructure, storage platforms, and data center operations
• Monitor, troubleshoot, and improve networking and security systems
• Lead and participate in infrastructure projects and modernization efforts
• Ensure infrastructure reliability, performance, security, and scalability

Current Projects & Initiatives

The successful candidate will contribute to several strategic projects, including:

• Azure security enhancements
• Active Directory and domain cleanup initiatives
• File share permissions and access governance projects
• Infrastructure standardization and modernization efforts

Required Qualifications

• 5+ years of experience in Infrastructure Engineering, Systems Engineering, or a related role
• Strong experience supporting Microsoft technology environments
• Hands-on experience with:
• Microsoft 365
• Exchange Online
• SharePoint Online
• Intune / Microsoft Endpoint Manager
• Citrix
• VMware / vSphere / ESXi
• Experience supporting highly virtualized environments
• Strong knowledge of networking fundamentals and infrastructure security
• Experience with Active Directory, Windows Server, DNS, DHCP, and related technologies
• Experience supporting data center environments and enterprise infrastructure
• Strong troubleshooting, analytical, and problem-solving skills

Preferred Qualifications

• Microsoft certifications
• Experience with Microsoft Fabric and/or Power BI
• Experience supporting mid-market or enterprise environments
• Experience leading infrastructure projects and technology migrations
