Job summary

Freeport-McMoRan is seeking a Reliability Centered Maintenance Technician to join our team at the Tyrone mine complex in New Mexico. The role emphasizes predictive maintenance, equipment monitoring, and working with various maintenance and operations personnel to optimize availability and reduce costs.

The position requires travel to other facilities, a strong safety mindset, and the ability to work in confined spaces around energized equipment.

Qualifications

Responsibilities

• Monitor equipment across SX/EW, Smelter, Water System, Concentrator, Crushing/Conveying, Rod Plant, Refining, Mine and Power System.
• Utilize infrared, ultrasound, corona testing, and motor testing equipment as part of predictive maintenance.
• Build reports and maintain data in CMMS; perform planned maintenance and safety inspections.
• Travel to other facilities and interact with vendors and company personnel as a representative of Freeport-McMoRan.

Description

The goal of the Reliability Centered Maintenance Group is to achieve higher equipment availability and lower maintenance costs through predictive maintenance technologies. This goal is realized by regularly scheduled monitoring of equipment with predictive technologies and coordinating the necessary maintenance through teamwork with other maintenance and operations personnel, including but not limited to supervision, planning, engineering, and field personnel.This position requires travel to other facilities and interaction with vendors, contractors and company personnel; any and all business must be conducted in a professional manner as a representative of Freeport-McMoRan. This position requires a responsible, self-motivated person who is able to work efficiently with minimal supervision. This position requires working in confined spaces and tight corridors, as well as, working closely around moving, rotating, electrically energized, and elevated equipment in a safe and efficient manner.

• The RCM Technicians monitor equipment ranging from the SX/EW, Smelter, Water System, Concentrator, Crushing/Conveying, Rod Plant, Refining, Mine (Shovels, Drills, Haulage), outlying areas and Power System (lines/substations)
• Infrared, airborne ultrasound, corona, and motor testing data collection utilizing current technology (FLIR, UViRCO, and SKF Baker)
• Utilization of the current software to load, dump, and analyze ultrasonic route data, as well as, build and update the associated data sets and databases (alarms, trends, etc.)
• Report building/giving presentations utilizing various software programs,
  daily planning, including but not limited to Maintenance Plans and Maintenance orders utilizing the current CMMS
• Learn various RCM/PdM technologies, primarily Infrared, Motor Testing (on and off line), Corona, Lubrication, and development into other technologies
• Support the RCM Program and its continual development; educate other personnel in any area of the RCM Program
• Administer the collection and analysis of real-time data using various predictive technologies, timely reporting and summary reporting (RCFA's) utilizing technology such as infrared thermography, airborne ultrasound, motor test equipment, corona test equipment, etc.
• Communicate effectively to provide, receive, and implement constructive feedback to support the mentoring program
• Actively participate with Maintenance and Planning groups
• Perform additional duties as required

Qualifications

Minimum Qualifications

• Minimum of seven (7) years of hands-on electrical maintenance experience with industrial equipment (substations, switchgear, pumps, motors, drive systems, etc.) that includes:
  • A working knowledge and understanding of moving and rotating equipment such as pumps, motors, gearboxes and conveyors, from an operations and maintenance perspective, electrically and mechanically
  • A working knowledge and understanding of basic principles of electricity and electrical components
  • Journeyman level ability to read, understand and apply information from technical manuals and other reference materials
• Ability to work in a team with a high regard for safety and environmental concerns and with a strong commitment to policies
• Effective written, verbal, and communication skills to satisfy training, safety, and electronic message transmission policies of the company
• Demonstrated computer skills in Windows environment with experience in MS Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Outlook
• Possess ITC Level I certification or obtain within one (1) year of hire date
• Valid state driver's license (or able to obtain one)
• Satisfactory performance record (internal applicant)

Preferred

• High School diploma or GED
• Minimum of ten (10) years of hands-on electrical maintenance experience with industrial equipment (substations, switchgear, pumps, motors, drive systems, etc.) that includes:

• Corona experience
• Certification with ITC in IR
• Certification in Corona
• Experience with SKF Baker motor testing equipment (static and/or dynamic)
• Experience with FLIR cameras and software
• Experience with RCFA

• Ability to understand and apply verbal and written work and safety-related instructions and procedures given in English
• Ability to communicate in English with respect to job assignments, job procedures, and applicable safety standards
• Must be able to work in a potentially stressful environment
• Work is performed in a mine or manufacturing plant, which may include exposure to extremes in temperature and humidity, moving mechanical parts, risk of electrical shock, toxic chemicals, explosives, fumes or airborne particles
• Work is performed in a 24 hour/day, 7 day/week, 365 day/year operation; this position requires a person who is willing and able to work weekends, holidays, rotating shifts and both scheduled and unscheduled overtime
• While performing the duties of this job, the employee is required to stand, sit, demonstrate manual dexterity, climb stairs and ladders, work on elevated platforms, talk, hear and see
• Required to lift moderately heavy to heavy objects (up to 50 pounds) during the course of the workday
• Personal protective equipment is required on a regular basis, including hard hat, hearing protection, safety glasses, safety foot wear, and as needed, respirator, rubber steel-toe boots, protective clothing, gloves and other protective equipment as required

The estimated pay range for this role is currently$35.00 - $47.00/hour. This range reflects base salary only and does not include bonus payments, benefits or retirement contributions. Actual base pay is determined by experience, qualifications, skills and other job-related factors. This role is eligible for additional discretionary and incentive payment considerations based on company and individual performance.
