Job summary

Amazon.com Services LLC's Worldwide Grocery Stores (WWGS) Design team is seeking a Sr. Industrial Designer to lead design for large-scale grocery facilities, overseeing drawing packages, construction documents, and permitting from ground-up to TI work across the network.

The role requires deep industrial design expertise, precision, and the ability to drive design decisions balancing efficiency, scalability, and cost. Collaboration with Real Estate, Construction, and Engineering is essential.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in Engineering, Operations, Business Administration, or a related field.
• Knowledge of AutoCAD 3D.
• 5+ years of reading and understanding schematics and building drawings experience.

Responsibilities

• Own end-to-end design support for large-scale industrial grocery facilities across the full project type spectrum: ground-up greenfield development, building shell design, and tenant improvement (TI) work within existing industrial facilities.
• Develop, manage, and maintain composite drawing packages and construction document sets for large-scale industrial grocery facilities with vendors.
• Lead shell design coordination, including site civil interface, structural systems, building envelope, and core-and-shell documentation for large-scale industrial facilities.
• Manage tenant improvement design and documentation, adapting existing shells for grocery fulfillment operations, automation systems, and food safety requirements.
• Lead permitting processes across multiple jurisdictions, coordinating with local authorities, landlords, and regulatory bodies to ensure timely approvals.
• Partner with Real Estate, Pre-Construction, Construction, Program Management, and Operations Engineering to align design with requirements, schedule, and budget.
• Collaborate with internal/external architects and engineers to develop and coordinate construction document and permitting packages.
• Streamline site layouts, workstation configurations, and material flow for maximum efficiency and value.
• Create scalable design solutions and ensure designs can be replicated network-wide.
• Maintain drawing standards across multiple business lines, establishing new standards for emerging building types and programs.
• Support value engineering on existing network sites to improve throughput, safety, and cost efficiency.
• Drive programmatic rollouts for key design initiatives across the distribution center network.
• Manage consultant and vendor relationships through all design/construction phases.
• Identify and mitigate design risks and escalate when needed.
• Communicate complex design concepts effectively to business partners at all levels.
