Team Summary:

Samsung Design Innovation Center is one of the leading overseas design studios in Samsung, located in San Francisco, CA. Our mission is to understand people and lifestyles to deliver meaningful experiences through beautiful yet functional design, enabled by innovative cutting-edge technologies.

SDIC is working on various advanced product experiences which can envision and shape the future of Samsung Business, working with various internal teams through an experience-driven approach. Our work appears on smartphones, tablets, computers, televisions, wearables, home appliances, and other devices we can't describe yet. See some of our work at http://design.samsung.com/global/contents/sdic/

We design future experience-driven innovation opportunities with empathy and compassion for people across the Samsung Electronics portfolio. We uncover unmet and latent user needs through human-centered research and transform emerging technologies into meaningful product experiences that define future product categories.

We are looking for talented designers, strategists, researchers, and creative technologists to join our group and bring new energy to our process. You should be ready to help at all stages of product design, from identifying unmet needs and discovering new design opportunities to developing visionary concepts and creatively applying emerging technologies to solve real user problems and create radically new experiences.

Position Summary:

Samsung Design Innovation Center is seeking a talented and highly motivated Industrial Designer to imagine, develop, and communicate the next generation of consumer products across Samsung's expanding device portfolio, with a particular focus on emerging product categories including wearable devices and future hardware experiences.

This role is for a designer who combines strong Industrial Design fundamentals with a passion for exploring new creative possibilities enabled by Artificial Intelligence. You will work alongside senior design leadership and multidisciplinary teams at SDIC to explore how AI can amplify creativity, accelerate design exploration, and expand the way future products are conceived, visualized, and communicated.

You will be expected to embrace AI-native Industrial Design as part of your everyday creative process - using emerging AI capabilities throughout ideation, concept exploration, visualization, storytelling, and iterative design development. We are not simply looking for a designer who uses AI to generate images. We are looking for someone who demonstrates strong design judgment and understands how to use AI as a creative partner to explore broader design possibilities and elevate the quality of the final design.

The ideal candidate combines excellent Industrial Design craft with curiosity, experimentation, and a willingness to continuously learn. You should be comfortable exploring ambiguous opportunities, generating a wide range of ideas, developing compelling product concepts, and collaborating with diverse disciplines to bring those ideas to life.

You will work closely with the Lead Industrial Designer and other competencies within SDIC, as well as Industrial Design teams in Korea, to develop future product concepts and explore new AI-native design methodologies. Through this collaboration, you will contribute to evolving how AI can augment the Industrial Design process while maintaining a high standard of design quality, craftsmanship, and human-centered thinking.

We are interested in passionate and self-motivated individuals who are comfortable in a highly fluid environment. You will bring strong design talent, curiosity, experimentation, and a desire to continuously evolve your creative process. We will provide the multidisciplinary environment and opportunities to explore new ways of shaping the future of Samsung products.

Position Responsibilities:

  • Develop Innovative Concepts: Sketch, visualize, and conceptualize future consumer hardware and emerging product categories across Samsung’s global portfolio
  • Build Physical Mock-ups: Create physical prototypes to evaluate form factors, scale, ergonomics, and hands‑on product experiences
  • Translate Insights: Convert user research, market trends, and emerging technologies into highly desirable, functional, and meaningful product concepts
  • Leverage AI for Iteration: Integrate generative AI tools throughout the design process to accelerate ideation, concept exploration, rendering, and iterative development
  • Continuously Experiment: Actively test and play with emerging AI technologies and creative tools to find new ways to enhance traditional design processes
  • Support Methodology Evolving: Partner closely with the Lead Industrial Designer to develop, test, and refine new AI-native workflows while keeping a high standard of aesthetic originality
Storytelling & Narrative Presentation
  • Produce Compelling Assets: Generate high‑quality AI assisted renders, animations, movies, and visual storytelling materials to pitch product visions
  • Present & Defend Work: Confidently present design intent and product experiences to multidisciplinary teams and executive stakeholders
  • Engage in Critiques: Actively participate in design reviews, workshops, and collaborative brainstorms while offering constructive feedback to peers
  • Work Independently: Maintain strong self‑motivation with the ability to move design projects forward autonomously under broad direction
  • Collaborate Globally: Partner daily with SDIC cross‑functional teams (UX, Strategy, Research, Engineering) and maintain active, collaborative lines of communication with teams in Korea
  • Travel & Flexibility: Travel internationally and domestically as needed to collaborate with global stakeholders

Required Skills:

  • Bachelor's Degree required; Master's Degree preferred in Industrial Design, Product Design, Transportation Design, or equivalent combination of education, training, and experience
  • 5+ years of professional Industrial Design experience with a strong portfolio demonstrating high‑quality product design thinking and execution
  • Strong traditional design capabilities including sketching, 3D visualization, physical mock‑up development, ergonomics, and meticulous attention to craftsmanship
  • Demonstrated portfolio showcasing AI‑assisted concept exploration and storytelling, with the ability to articulate specific generative AI tools and workflows during the interview process
  • Deep understanding of human‑centered design methodologies and the ability to transform ambiguous opportunities into clear, compelling product concepts
  • Excellent visual storytelling and presentation skills paired with a transparent communication style that welcomes critique and continuous improvement
  • Self‑motivated, action‑oriented team player with a deep passion for consumer electronics, emerging tech, and collaborating across multidisciplinary teams
