Job summary

Orionplacement is seeking a senior attorney to lead our removal defense practice in San Diego, CA. You will independently manage cases from strategy through resolution and represent clients before EOIR in master calendar, merits, and bond hearings, as well as in BIA matters.

You will handle related federal litigation, draft complex filings, mentor junior attorneys, and stay current on evolving immigration procedures. Fluency in Spanish and a California bar license are required.

Qualifications

• J.D. from an accredited law school.
• Active state bar membership in good standing.
• 5+ years of hands-on Immigration Court and removal defense experience.
• Fluency in Spanish, including professional communication with clients.
• Prior supervisory or mentoring experience.

Responsibilities

• Serve as a senior attorney and team lead within our removal defense practice.
• Independently manage removal defense matters from strategy through resolution.
• Represent clients before Immigration Court (EOIR) in master calendar hearings, individual merits hearings, and bond hearings.
• Handle matters before the Board of Immigration Appeals (BIA).
• Work on related federal litigation, including habeas corpus, mandamus, and Administrative Procedure Act matters.
• Draft persuasive briefs, motions, applications for relief, and other complex legal filings.
• Develop case strategy and provide clients with clear guidance throughout the removal defense process.
• Communicate directly with Spanish-speaking clients regarding sensitive and complex immigration matters.
• Supervise, mentor, and develop junior attorneys and legal staff.
• Stay current on immigration law, litigation developments, and evolving court procedures.
• Lead internal seminars and share knowledge on removal defense and immigration litigation issues.

Note

Candidates must have 5+ years of hands-on removal defense experience, be fluent in Spanish, hold an active state bar license in good standing, and have experience supervising or mentoring attorneys or legal staff.
