Job summary

Akamai is seeking a Senior II Software Development Engineer in Test to lead the test strategy for our Linux kernel and OS imaging processes. You will design scalable test frameworks, validate new hardware designs, and drive continuous integration across complex testing environments.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree or its equivalent in a relevant field or equivalent experience.
• 8+ years of relevant experience in software test engineering or related roles.
• Strong scripting skills in Python, Shell, and Perl with C validation experience.

Responsibilities

• Design, build, and scale automated test frameworks validating hardware compatibility, performance, reliability, and security of Akamai's Linux kernel and OS imaging process.
• Develop test suites validating new hardware designs and port modifications to newer Linux kernel versions and VM infrastructure software.
• Debug, isolate, and troubleshoot complex low-level system issues across testing and simulated production environments.
• Architect and enhance build and test automation infrastructure to enable robust CI and testing pipelines.
• Provide technical leadership, set quality standards, and mentor junior engineers.

You will lead the test strategy for Akamai's custom Linux kernel with some focus on functionality and support of new hardware platforms. You will design scalable continuous testing infrastructure and troubleshoot complex system issues. This will help validate feature functionality and maximize the performance of a global AI and Compute platform known for its dependability.

As a Senior II Software Development Engineer in Test, you will be responsible for:

• Designing, building, and scaling advanced automated test frameworks to validate the hardware compatibility, performance, reliability, and security of Akamai's Linux kernel and OS imaging process
• Developing test suites validating new hardware designs; facilitate porting existing Akamai modifications to newer versions of the Linux kernel and VM infrastructure software
• Debugging, isolating, and troubleshooting complex, low-level system issues found in a variety of testing and simulated production environments
• Architecting and enhancing existing build and test automation infrastructure to achieve robust, continuous integration and testing
• Providing technical leadership, setting quality standards, and mentoring junior members of the organization

Do what you love

To be successful in this role you will:

• Have 8 years of relevant experience and a Bachelor's degree or its equivalent
• Have solid experience in scripting (Python/Shell/Perl) with some experience in software validation in C
• Possess understanding of Linux kernel internals including hardware drivers (pcie, gpu hardware, ethernet devices, KVM, virtio, cgroups, memory management, file systems, block IO, TCP/IP stack)
• Have experience with both x86 and general-purpose/server-class arm64 architectures.
• Have extensive experience with Linux kernel and hardware debugging tools, performance benchmarking, and continuous testing/CI frameworks
• Be a motivated self-starter and established technical leader who thrives on collaborating with others to solve highly complex infrastructure challenges

Compensation

Akamai is committed to fair and equitable compensation practices. For US based candidates only - the base salary for this position ranges from $146,400 - $263,600/year; a candidate’s salary is determined by various factors including, but not limited to, relevant work experience, skills, certifications and location. Compensation for candidates outside the US will vary. The compensation package may also include incentive compensation opportunities in the form of annual bonus or incentives, equity awards and an Employee Stock Purchase Plan (ESPP).
