Job summary

Cognizant Technology Solutions Corporation is seeking an experienced Senior IBM i Series / IBM Power Systems Engineer to implement, migrate, and optimize IBM Power Systems and IBM i Series environments for enterprise clients. You will lead platform implementations, manage migrations, and provide expert-level support across customer environments.

The role requires deep technical expertise in IBM Power hardware, IBM i OS administration, and hands-on experience with upgrades, LPARs, and HMC.

Qualifications

• Extensive experience supporting and administering IBM Power Systems and IBM i Series environments.
• Deep knowledge of IBM i OS administration, troubleshooting, performance tuning, and system recovery.
• Hands-on experience with HMC administration.
• Experience performing firmware, OS, and PTF upgrades.
• Proven ability to build/configure LPARs and restore systems from physical/virtual media.
• Working knowledge of CL, SQL, COBOL, and RPG programming languages.

Responsibilities

• Lead and execute IBM i platform implementations and migrations.
• Deliver projects aligned with customer requirements, timelines, and onboarding milestones.
• Install IBM Power servers: hardware deployment, racking, stacking, configuration, and commissioning.
• Plan and execute IBM i OS migrations, upgrades, and environment transformations.
• Provide regular project updates and communicate complex technical concepts clearly.
• Develop and maintain technical documentation, procedures, and best practices.
• Troubleshoot and resolve complex IBM i infrastructure issues.
• Act as escalation point for critical incidents and provide expert-level support.
• Collaborate with cross-functional teams to improve service delivery and platform stability.
• Travel to customer sites for onsite installations, migrations, and engagements.

Job description

We are seeking an experienced Senior IBM i Series / IBM Power Systems Engineer to join our infrastructure and platform services team. The successful candidate will be responsible for implementing, migrating, supporting, and optimizing IBM Power Systems and IBM i Series environments for enterprise customers. This role requires deep technical expertise in IBM Power hardware, IBM i Series operating systems, system upgrades, migrations, and customer-facing consulting engagements.

In this role, you will:

• Lead and execute IBM i platform implementation projects while collaborating with internal teams and customers.

• Deliver projects in alignment with customer requirements, project timelines, and onboarding milestones.

• Perform IBM Power server installations, including hardware deployment, racking, stacking, configuration, and commissioning.

• Plan and execute IBM i operating system migrations, upgrades, and environment transformations.

• Provide regular project updates to stakeholders and communicate complex technical concepts in a clear and concise manner.

• Develop and maintain technical documentation, implementation procedures, and best practices for IBM i environments.

• Troubleshoot and resolve complex IBM i infrastructure and operating system issues.

• Act as an escalation point for critical incidents and provide expert-level support for customer environments.

• Participate in technical planning discussions and provide recommendations for IBM Power and IBM i platform strategy.

• Collaborate with cross-functional teams to improve service delivery, operational efficiency, and platform stability.

• Support after-hours maintenance activities, upgrades, migrations, and critical customer requirements as needed.

• Travel to customer locations for onsite installations, migrations, and project engagements.

What you need to have to be considered

• Extensive experience supporting and administering IBM Power Systems and IBM I Series (AS/400) environments.

• Strong expertise in IBM Power hardware installation, maintenance, and infrastructure management.

• Deep knowledge of IBM i OS administration, troubleshooting, performance tuning, and system recovery.

• Hands-on experience with HMC (Hardware Management Console) administration.

• Experience performing firmware, operating system, and PTF upgrades.

• Proven experience building and configuring LPARs and restoring systems from physical and virtual media.

• Working knowledge of CL, SQL, COBOL, and RPG programming languages.

Salary and Other Compensation:

The annual salary for this position is between $ 69,500 to $ 123,500 depending on experience and other qualifications of the successful candidate. This position is also eligible for Cognizant’s discretionary annual incentive program, based on performance and subject to the terms of Cognizant’s applicable plans.
