Job summary

Brex is seeking a senior IAM engineer to design, build, and operate secure authentication and authorization systems. You will lead engineers on IAM initiatives end to end, influence architecture, and partner with product teams to balance security and usability.

Based in Seattle with a hybrid in-office/remote setup, you will work on integrations with Okta, OAuth, SAML, OIDC, and enterprise identity workflows, ensuring reliable, scalable access across Brex's platform.

Qualifications

• 7+ years of professional experience designing, developing, and deploying applications.
• Experience leading complex IAM projects and mentoring engineers.
• Strong API design fundamentals, testing discipline, code quality and documentation.
• Understanding of authentication, authorization, sessions, tokens, MFA, SSO, OAuth, SAML, OIDC or RBAC.

Responsibilities

• Design, build, and operate backend systems and APIs for authentication, authorization, identity context, and audit-related workflows.
• Lead engineers on IAM initiatives end to end, from design to rollout and operation.
• Improve login and access experiences across SSO, MFA, and enterprise identity flows.
• Build and extend authorization systems supporting custom roles and secure defaults for product teams.
• Help create durable, identity-aware audit trails and attribution for user and service actions.
• Partner with Brex engineers to ensure secure-by-default IAM integrations and clear adoption patterns.
• Mentor engineers to deliver high-quality code and improve reliability across systems.
