Job summary

W-Industries of Texas LLC is seeking a Senior I&E Designer to lead detailed instrumentation and electrical design packages for industrial and energy projects. You will develop wiring diagrams, schematics, and layouts while mentoring junior designers and ensuring design quality.

Responsibilities include independent execution of design packages, field walkdowns, multidisciplinary coordination, and timely delivery of accurate as-built drawings.

Qualifications

• Associates degree or technical diploma in Electrical Engineering Technology, Drafting, or related field.
• Technical degree or certification in drafting, electrical technology, or related field is a plus.
• 10+ years of I&E design experience, with at least 3 years in a senior design role.

Responsibilities

• Prepare and review detailed I&E drawings, including wiring diagrams, schematics, loop diagrams, and panel layouts.
• Develop cable and conduit routing, termination schedules, and equipment layouts.
• Ensure compliance with NEC, ISA, IEEE, and client-specific standards.
• Collaborate with engineers, project managers, and construction teams to resolve design issues.
• Create and maintain accurate as-built drawings and redlines.
• Support field teams with design clarifications and technical guidance.
• Coordinate with procurement for materials lists and equipment specifications.
• Mentor and provide training to junior designers and CAD personnel.
• Participate in design reviews and project meetings to ensure quality and accuracy.

Description

The Senior I&E Designer develops, reviews, and coordinates instrumentation and electrical (I&E) design packages for industrial and energy projects. This role creates detailed drawings, layouts, and schematics in compliance with industry standards and client requirements. The Senior I&E Designer also provides technical leadership, ensures design quality, and mentors junior designers and drafters.

The candidate must have a strong background in refinery, petrochemical, and industrial facility projects. Candidate must be capable of independently executing detailed design packages, performing field walkdowns, coordinating with multiple engineering disciplines, and producing accurate, constructible deliverables. Strong field experience and the ability to support multiple projects are essential. Previous experience checking drawings and mentoring less-experienced designers is preferred.

Required Skills

• Advanced proficiency with AutoCAD required.
• In-depth knowledge of electrical and instrumentation design principles.
• Experience with SmartPlant Instrumentation (SPI), Navisworks, or similar engineering design software preferred.
• Familiarity with NEC, ISA, IEEE, and other industry standards.
• Strong problem-solving and analytical skills.
• Excellent attention to detail with strong organizational abilities.
• Ability to effectively communicate with engineering, field, and client teams.

Required Experience & Education

• Education: Associates degree or technical diploma in Electrical Engineering Technology, Drafting, or related field.
• Technical degree or certification in drafting, electrical technology, or a related field is a plus.
• Experience: 10+ years of I&E design experience, with at least 3 years in a senior design role.

Physical Requirements

• Prolonged periods sitting at a desk and working on a computer.
• Ability to occasionally lift up to 25 pounds.
