Job summary

The Supervisory Hydrologic Technician at the U.S. Geological Survey's Marion Field Office leads field operations and provides technical direction and administrative supervision for staff within the Hydrologic Network Operations Section of the Virginia and West Virginia Water Science Center.

The incumbent manages monitoring programs, directs data collection of water properties, and ensures stations and electrical systems operate to collect, store, and transmit measurements.

Responsibilities

• Manages hydrologic monitoring-based program used for investigation and management of complex hydrologic needs.
• Supervises multiple staff collecting hydrologic data to meet program goals.
• Collects and analyzes discrete and continuous measurements or samples of physical and chemical properties of water from a variety of hydrologic systems. Constructs and maintains water resource monitoring stations and electrical systems used to collect, store, and transmit continuous measurements of physical and chemical properties of water.
• Communicates and provides training in technical information related to hydrologic monitoring to subordinates, other Center staff, a wide variety of cooperative agencies and the public.
