Job summary

HDR is seeking a hydraulics structures engineer to advance design and evaluation of dams, spillways, gates, and related works in CA. You will lead multi-disciplinary teams, develop design options and oversee project delivery from concept through documentation.

With a PE license and 10+ years of structural experience, you’ll review calculations, mentor staff, and help grow HDR’s engineering services for Federal and state clients while maintaining a strong employee-owned culture.

Qualifications

Bachelor's degree in Civil or Structural Engineering.
Minimum 10 years of structural engineering experience in building design.
Professional Engineer (PE) license.
Experience with design calculations and layouts.
Proficiency in AutoCAD, RAM, ETABS, SAFE or similar tools.
Knowledge of gravity and lateral analysis for structures.
Experience with architectural/engineering consulting firms.
Active participation in an employee-owned culture.

Responsibilities

Conduct structural analyses, evaluations and designs; develop options or recommendations.
Prepare contract documents including drawings, specs, criteria and cost estimates.
Lead design of hydraulic structures including dams, spillways and gates.
Perform engineering tasks requiring creative thinking for unique structural elements.
Coordinate structural design with multi-disciplinary teams.
Work independently as project engineer; mentor junior staff and expand HDR’s services.
Review others' design work for correctness and code compliance.
Perform inspections and structural assessments of existing structures.
