Senior Civil Engineer – Hydropower Projects

Location: Phoenix, AZ, USA
Relocation eligible: Yes

The Opportunity

We are seeking a Senior Civil Engineer with strong technical expertise in hydropower hydraulic structures to lead projects for clients on the Northwest, West Coast, and Southwest regions. The role involves managing and mentoring junior staff, building a multidisciplinary execution team, and delivering high‑quality design and construction solutions.

Key Responsibilities
  • Lead projects involving dams, spillways, intakes, outlets, and other hydropower and hydraulic structure improvements.
  • Deliver innovative and high‑quality design products, manage equipment procurement, and participate in construction processes for municipal and hydropower clients.
  • Collaborate with subject‑matter experts across disciplines to deliver PS&E documentation, technical analyses, and other deliverables.
  • Mentor and interact with professionals in hydropower and dams teams across multiple disciplines.
  • Translate client direction into efficient workplans and coordinate with project team members to deliver high‑quality work products.
  • Create written technical documents, technical drawings, specifications, cost estimates, alternative analyses, and other common engineering deliverables.
  • Leverage knowledge of general engineering principles—including hydraulics, civil/structural design, geotechnical considerations, and mechanical systems—to generate unique, engineered solutions.
  • Prepare and oversee the preparation of calculations and design documents.
  • Participate in equipment procurement and construction management processes.
  • Provide support to business development teams for pursuit activities, including the opportunity to lead projects you pursue and acquire.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Experience with West Coast hydropower clients.
  • Master's Degree in Civil Engineering or Business.
  • Familiarity with state and federal regulatory requirements for dams and hydropower projects.
  • Professional Engineer (P.E.) license.
Minimum Qualifications
  • Bachelor's degree in engineering from an accredited program.
  • Minimum of 11 years of related work experience.
  • Must be able to complete pre‑employment onboarding requirements, including background checks and drug screening where applicable.
Certifications
  • Active Professional Engineer (P.E.) License.
Work Environment / Physical Demands
  • Hybrid or flexible work options may be offered after the first 90 days based on management discretion.
  • Typical office and construction environments; exposure to extreme weather, high noise, safety hazards such as electrical currents, scaffolding, high places, chemicals, and atmospheric conditions.
  • Requirements include sitting, walking, talking, reading, writing, keyboarding, driving, filing, reaching, stooping, crouching, bending, standing for extended periods, and lifting or carrying up to 40 pounds.
