Senior Geotechnical Engineer

Bla & Veatch Corporation (Black & Veatch) invites applicants for the position of Senior Geotechnical Engineer. This is a full‑time, staff role located in the United States, eligible for relocation, and offered through our hybrid work environment.

Opportunity

We are seeking a Senior Geotechnical Engineer with strong technical civil engineering skills to lead hydraulic structures projects for our hydropower clients in the Northwest, West Coast, and Southwest regions. The role involves managing and mentoring junior staff, delivering a diverse variety of multi‑discipline design projects, and fostering collaboration across disciplines.

Key Responsibilities
  • Communicate and work directly with client counterparts to develop technical solutions for infrastructure challenges, providing ideas and strategies from concept to closeout.
  • Translate client direction into efficient workplans and coordinate with project team members to deliver high‑quality work products.
  • Create written technical documents, technical drawings, specifications, cost estimates, alternative analyses, and other common engineering deliverables.
  • Apply design guides, standards, and engineering codes relevant to the hydropower industry.
  • Leverage knowledge of hydraulics, civil/structural design, geotechnical considerations, and mechanical systems to generate engineered solutions.
  • Prepare and oversee calculations and design documents.
  • Participate in equipment procurement and construction management processes.
  • Manage and mentor junior engineers.
  • Support business development teams with pursuit activities, including leading projects that you pursue and acquire.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Experience with West Coast hydropower clients.
  • Master’s Degree in Civil Engineering or Business.
  • Geotechnical License in California or ability to obtain.
  • Professional Engineer (P.E.) License.
Minimum Qualifications
  • Bachelor’s degree in engineering from an accredited program in the applicant’s home country or country of practice.
  • Minimum of 11 years of related work experience.
  • Ability to complete pre‑employment onboarding requirements, including background checks, drug screening, and motor vehicle records search.
Certifications
  • Active Professional Engineer (P.E.) License.
  • Geotechnical License in California or ability to obtain.
Work Environment / Physical Demands
  • Hybrid or flexible work options may be offered after the first 90 days of employment based upon manager discretion, job performance, and work assignments.
  • Typical office and construction environments, with extreme weather conditions, high noise levels, safety hazards, and exposure to chemicals, fumes, odors, and dusts.
  • Physical requirements include sitting, walking, talking, reading, writing, keyboarding, driving, and lifting or carrying up to 40 pounds.
Compensation

Annual range: $142,086.00 – $282,475.00. Benefits include 401(k) match, health, dental, vision insurance, paid vacation, sick time, and other comprehensive benefits.
