Job summary

Drew University in Madison, New Jersey is seeking a Journeyman HVAC Technician in the Facilities Department. The full-time role involves installation, maintenance, troubleshooting and repair of commercial and residential HVAC systems on campus, including CRAC units in data centers.

The technician will work a rotating on-call schedule with overtime as required, and will coordinate with other trades and outside contractors. A NJ black seal license and EPA refrigerant certification are required.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or GED.
• 5–10 years of experience in commercial HVAC.
• NJ Black Seal low-pressure boiler operator license.
• NJ Underground Storage Tank Operator Certification within 6 months.
• EPA CFC Universal refrigerant handling certification.
• Valid U.S. driver’s license; able to operate automobile or light vehicle.
• Strong written and verbal English communication and interpersonal skills.

Responsibilities

• Installs, inspects, tests, operates, and repairs all HVAC and ancillary system equipment.
• Checks, services, cleans, and replaces filters and belts on all HVAC units; documents maintenance and service history.
• Replaces and aligns HVAC system motors, pumps, and bearings.
• Cleans, maintains, and replaces heating, air conditioning, ventilation, and exhaust grills and ductwork.
• Rebuilds pumps; replaces valves, actuators, contactors, relays, dampers, transformers, motors, and pulleys.
• Performs steam trap troubleshooting and replacement.
