Position Summary Information

Position Summary

The Senior HVAC Technician is responsible to perform duties involved in inspecting, servicing, and repairing, heating, cooling, ventilating and refrigeration equipment for the University.

Austin Peay State University is a four-year public, doctoral-level university, with six colleges and four Chairs of Excellence. The University has an enrollment of over 10,000 students and is located in Clarksville, Tennessee, a community of an estimated 180,000 people located approximately 40 miles northwest of Nashville, TN.

Primary Duties and Responsibilities

  • Install, inspect, troubleshoot and repair HVAC equipment to include the following: chillers, boilers, air handlers, roof top units, pumps and steam systems.
  • Perform preventative maintenance on all HVAC equipment and systems.
  • Troubleshoot and repair control circuits for all HVAC equipment and BMS controls.
  • Maintain accurate maintenance records on equipment, include refrigerant usage logs.
  • Serve as boiler operator at main plant as needed.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

  • Ability to communicate effectively and appropriately.
  • Ability to interact in an effective and appropriate manner with the University community and the public.
  • Ability to handle multiple tasks simultaneously.
  • -Ability to successfully complete assignments using appropriate methods, materials, tools and equipment in maintenance work as described above.
  • Ability to recognize occupational hazards and take appropriate safety precautions.
  • Ability to follow instructions.
  • Ability to drive light motor vehicle.
  • Ability to maintain accurate records.
  • Ability to perform light to heavy manual labor for extended periods of time under some unfavorable climatic conditions.
  • Ability to work overtime as required.
  • Ability to work in an on-call capacity and inclement weather duties.
Physical Requirements
  • Exerting up to 50 pounds of force occasionally, and/or up to 20 pounds of force frequently, and/or up to 10 pounds of force constantly to move objects.
  • Bending, twisting and lifting weights to 100lbs.
  • Heights and working on elevations of 60 feet.
  • Work off ladders and lifts.
  • Must wear proper PPE (safety shoes, hearing and eye protection) as required.
Required Minimum Qualifications
  • High school graduate, trade school or equivalent.
  • A minimum of three (3) years commercial HVAC work experience.
  • Valid driver’s license.
  • A background check will be required of the successful applicant.
