Job summary

State of Wisconsin, Department of Corrections—Division of Juvenile Corrections, is seeking an HVAC Refrigeration Specialist Advanced for the Milwaukee Youth Facility in Milwaukee, WI. The role focuses on operation, inspection, repair, installation, and preventive maintenance of HVAC/Refrigeration systems and related automation controls.

The position requires strong mechanical aptitude and knowledge of HVAC systems, with duties including energy-saving initiatives and collaboration with staff.

Qualifications

• Strong mechanical aptitude and hands-on experience with HVAC systems.
• Knowledge of electrical, plumbing, heating, refrigeration, and building systems.
• Ability to repair and adjust mechanical components, valves, pumps, fans, compressors and switches.
• Ability to operate power and hand tools used in mechanical maintenance work.
• Safety awareness and knowledge of hazards and precautions in building systems.
• Must obtain EPA Universal 608 Refrigerant Handling Certification within 12 months of employment.

Responsibilities

• Operate, inspect, repair, install and perform preventive maintenance on HVAC/Refrigeration systems and related building automation and Direct Digital Control (DDC) systems.
• Perform systems analysis and maintenance on HVAC/Refrigeration equipment including air handlers, boilers, chillers, pumps, filtration, and temperature control components; work on energy-saving initiatives.
• Maintain emergency generators, plumbing equipment, and lighting control systems; collaborate with occupants and supervisor on improvements.
• Coordinate with maintenance teams to ensure compliance with safety, codes and departmental policies.
