Job summary

6 Degrees Search seeks an experienced mechanical estimator to drive accurate, competitive bids for industrial, HVAC, and piping projects in the Danbury area. You will lead pre-bid analyses, coordinate with engineers, suppliers, and operations, and develop scope narratives and value engineering options to maximize bid quality.

This role emphasizes data-driven decision making and timely delivery of estimates.

Qualifications

• 10+ years of mechanical estimating experience in industrial, HVAC, and/or piping systems.
• Experience estimating process piping projects.
• Strong knowledge of Design-Build and Plan & Spec delivery methods.
• Proficiency with estimating software, on-screen takeoff tools, and spreadsheets.
• Ability to produce accurate, competitive, and timely estimates with minimal information.
• Excellent communication and relationship-building with clients, vendors, subcontractors, and stakeholders.
• In-depth knowledge of HVAC, industrial systems, and piping systems.

Responsibilities

• Participate in pre-bid meetings and scope reviews to understand project requirements.
• Review bid documents, drawings, and specifications for accuracy.
• Identify, solicit, and manage subcontractor and vendor quotations.
• Perform detailed quantity takeoffs using estimating software.
• Collaborate cross-functionally with estimators, operations, and internal teams.
• Prepare comprehensive estimates and ensure bid timelines.
• Develop value engineering options aligned with client goals.
• Provide post-award support during transition from estimate to execution.
• Balance high-level understanding with detail to ensure client satisfaction.
