Job summary

Virgin Galactic seeks an HVAC Specialist to serve as the senior technical authority for heating, ventilation, air conditioning, and building environmental controls. You will own reliability, performance, and continuous improvement of complex systems, guiding technicians and coordinating with vendors to ensure safety and operational excellence.

Qualifications

  • 6+ years of progressive experience in commercial HVAC, building operations, or critical facilities maintenance.
  • EPA Section 608 Universal Certification (refrigerant handling).
  • Advanced hands-on experience with commercial HVAC systems (chillers, boilers, VRF/VRV, RTUs) and BAS programming/troubleshooting.
  • Strong working knowledge of humidification systems and critical environmental controls.
  • Proven ability to safely perform minor electrical work and apply LOTO procedures.
  • Demonstrated experience mentoring or training junior technicians.
  • Strong communication skills, with experience partnering directly with facility management and vendors.
  • Ability to work independently, prioritize competing demands, and manage through incidents.
  • Proficiency with CMMS and BAS platforms; tablets/laptops for documentation and reporting.
  • Valid driver's license.

Responsibilities

  • Own the performance, reliability, and lifecycle planning of complex HVAC equipment: chillers, boilers, VRF/VRV, air handlers, and pumps.
  • Diagnose and resolve complex HVAC failures; serve as the escalation point for Facilities Technicians.
  • Perform and oversee refrigerant handling per EPA 608 regulations, including recovery and leak-rate reporting.
  • Analyze BAS trends, alarms, and energy data to identify inefficiencies and failures.
  • Modify control sequences and coordinate with Controls/IT on system upgrades.
  • Recommend and implement BAS optimization projects to improve energy efficiency and equipment longevity.
  • Develop, refine, and audit PM schedules for HVAC and humidification equipment.
  • Establish and track reliability KPIs and report trends to Facilities Manager and supervisor.
  • Mentor and train Facilities Technicians on diagnostics, safety, and CMMS documentation.
  • Partner with Facilities Manager to scope capital projects and vendor quotes, acting as technical contact for HVAC contractors.
  • Perform minor electrical work and support building maintenance with quality standards.
  • Coordinate incident response for HVAC failures and environmental events, with root-cause analysis.
