Job summary

Redwood Materials in Reno, NV seeks a Substation Protection and Control Engineer to design HV electrical infrastructure for EPC projects and to lead HV substation design (69kV–345kV) with protective relays and diagrams.

You will coordinate with utilities/ISO/RTOs for interconnection studies for renewables and BESS, perform grid studies, mentor juniors, and drive standards and schedules for reliable grid solutions.

Qualifications

• ABET-accredited degree in Electrical Engineering required.
• PE license in NV or eligible to reciprocity within 2 months of start date.
• Minimum 10 years of high voltage electrical design experience, EPc environments preferred.

Responsibilities

• Lead design of HV AC systems for industrial substations (69kV–345kV).
• Develop single-line diagrams, layout, protection and control, relay design and grounding.
• Perform grid simulations with PSSE/PSLF/PSCAD/ASPEN OneLiner.
• Interface with utilities and ISO/RTOs for interconnection studies and permitting.
• Conduct short circuit, load flow, and arc flash studies.
• Develop relay settings with SEL AcSELerator.
• Evaluate HV equipment selection and serve as Electrical Engineer of Record.
• Lead NEC/IEEE/NESC/NFPA reviews and mentor junior engineers.
• Collaborate with civil/structural teams on layout; support field testing and commissioning.
• Lead R&D feasibility for MVDC distribution with BESS integration.
