Job summary

Nexus Engineering Group is seeking a Senior Substation Engineer - Physical Design to lead the high-voltage substation physical design, advancing projects from concept to constructible packages. You’ll coordinate across disciplines, mentor engineers, and ensure design packages are complete and compliant with standards.

Qualifications

• 6+ years of experience in substation engineering, power delivery, or electrical design.
• Advanced knowledge of substation physical design—layouts, grounding systems, conduit and cable routing, equipment placement.
• Strong knowledge of IEEE, ANSI, NEC, and NESC standards.
• Proficiency with AutoCAD, MicroStation, or similar design platforms.
• Demonstrated experience leading engineering tasks or project scopes.

Responsibilities

• Lead the physical design and execution of high-voltage substation projects—from new stations to upgrades and modernization.
• Develop and oversee deliverables: GA drawings, elevations, grounding layouts, conduit, and equipment placement.
• Direct grounding design, bus arrangements, and equipment layouts for project scopes.
• Coordinate with protection, civil, structural engineers, designers, and project managers for cohesive execution.
• Mentor junior engineers and provide technical leadership and guidance.
