Job summary

Amazon Science seeks a Human-Robot Interaction (HRI) Applied Scientist to create expressive, socially intelligent robot interactions. You will advance verbal and non-verbal dialogue, memory, and long-term relationships between robots, people, and environments.

You will lead projects from concept to deployment, mentor junior scientists, and collaborate with researchers and engineers to translate research into production systems using LLMs, multimodal models, and robotics platforms.

Qualifications

• PhD or Master’s with 6+ years of applied research experience.
• Experience in Java, C++, Python; strong publication record.
• 3+ years of industry or academic research experience.
• Experience designing, running, and analyzing user studies.
• Experience mentoring and leading technical projects.
• Strong understanding of dialogue systems, multimodal interaction, or related fields.
• Experience applying ML (LLMs, multimodal models, RL, or related) to interactive systems.

Responsibilities

• Develop interactive systems leveraging LLMs, multimodal inputs and outputs.
• Design intelligent conversational systems with grounding from environment history.
• Integrate sensor streams to produce lifelike interactions.
• Develop memory/personalization systems for long-term user relationships.
• Stay updated on HRI, NLP, multimodal AI, and cognitive science.
• Lead technical projects from conception through deployment.
• Mentor junior scientists and engineers.
• Bridge research initiatives with practical engineering implementation.
