Job SummaryThe Senior Human Resources Specialist is responsible for guiding employees and managers in all facets of employee relations and special programs such as Americans with Disability Act Reasonable Accommodations, DOL unemployment cases, performance management, and workers' compensation. This position will play a critical role in supporting the organization's HR functions by managing complex cases and ensuring compliance with all relevant laws and policies.
Responsibilities1 -
Respond to employee relations issues and serve as the first point of contact on corrective action items, and initial investigations. Issue, review, retrieve, and maintain appropriate documentation and supporting details for all levels of the corrective action process to ensure compliance with the University System of Georgia (USG) and GGC policies.

Document and track information within the case management tool (LaborSoft); Review involuntary terminations in accordance with the college's processes to ensure consistency and lawful practices.

Guide employees and managers regarding campus environment concerns, policy interpretation, and resource information. Provide coaching and consultation to managers to enhance their people and performance management skills.

Provide comprehensive guidance to managers on the provisional and annual performance management goal-setting and evaluation processes.

Responsible for all facets of the unemployment claims process, including processing claims ensuring compliance with applicable laws and organizational policies, monitoring and responding to Department of Labor correspondence regarding claims, and serving as the designated College representative during appeals/hearing processes.

Responsible for handling requests for workplace accommodations under the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA) and other relevant regulations. Serve as subject matter resource for both managers and employees in the processing of accommodation requests under the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA). Collaborate with employees, managers, and physicians or other providers to identify appropriate and reasonable accommodation for individuals with disabilities. Ensure confidentiality of medical information and adherence to ADA guidelines during the accommodation process. Maintain records and documentation of all accommodation requests and outcomes. Provide education and training to managers on how to manage accommodation requests and maintain an inclusive work environment

Provide management oversight of and guidance to employees and managers on the college telework program.

Responsible for all facets of the college workers' compensation program process, ensuring that all claims are reported promptly, accurately, and in accordance with legal requirements. Provide in-depth support on more complex cases involving workers¿ compensation.

Bachelor's Degree in HR, Business or related discipline
4-5 years of experience in human resources, with a focus on employee relations, workers' compensation, performance management and accommodation management.
Experience in handling sensitive employee issues and maintaining confidentiality.
Experience working in higher education and/or government entity
Experience with a human resources management system or case management system, and/or other related business software programs and systems.
SHRM-CP or PHR preferred
Knowledge of ADA and workers' compensation, as well as related federal and state employment laws.
Proficient with general office-related duties, including the use of Microsoft Office Suite
Exceptional communication skills, with the ability to effectively interact with employees, managers, and external parties.
Strong organizational skills and the ability to manage multiple priorities and cases simultaneously.
Detail-oriented and committed to ensuring compliance and accuracy in all processes
Working knowledge and understanding of policy and procedures related to employment that may include complaints, grievances, performance management and evaluations, coaching, counselling, and progressive discipline.
Effective and excellent verbal and written communication skills.
Excellent organizational skills with the ability to prioritize objectives.
Ability to handle confidential and sensitive matters.
