MITRE’s Human-Systems Integration (HSI) and User Experience (UX) department seeks a Senior Human Factors Engineer passionate about designing user-centered software addressing sponsors' challenges. You will collaborate with multidisciplinary teams to frame problems, understand mission needs, and translate insights into intuitive, scalable solutions.

Qualifications

Minimum 5 years of related experience with a Bachelor's degree, or 3 years with a Master’s, or PhD with relevant experience.
Bachelor’s degree in Human Factors Engineering, Cognitive Engineering, Psychology, HCI, Interaction Design, UX Design or related field.
Minimum 5 years of work experience in researching, designing, developing, and prototyping system applications with user-centered design.
Experience with user research methods and usability testing including interviews, focus groups, usability testing sessions, requirements gathering, and heuristic assessments.
Experience in design software such as Figma, Miro, Sketch, Axure RP, Balsamiq, Lucidchart, Adobe XD, or similar tools.
Strong interpersonal, verbal and written communication abilities.
Demonstrated ability to share work findings to government sponsors or senior leaders.
Must have an active Secret U.S Government security clearance. U.S. citizenship required.
Minimum of 3 days per week on-site.

Responsibilities

Lead human-centered design efforts from user research and early concept development through interaction design, prototyping, usability evaluation, and iterative refinement.
Leverage AI-assisted design tools and human-centered methods to generate, evaluate, and refine interface concepts.
Elicit, analyze, and translate user, operational, and system requirements into design inputs.
Provide technical guidance to small multidisciplinary teams.
Collaborate with stakeholders to ensure alignment with mission goals and usability standards.
Advocate for the end-user and maintain design systems and UI guidelines.
Mentor early career team members and foster continuous learning.
