Qualifications

• Typically requires 5+ years of related experience with a Bachelor’s degree; or 3 years and a Master’s degree; or a PhD with relevant experience.
• Bachelor’s degree in Human Factors Engineering, Cognitive Engineering or Psychology, HCI, UX Design or related field.
• 5+ years of work experience in relevant roles applying user-centered design principles.
• Experience with user research methods and usability testing (interviews, focus groups, usability testing, requirements gathering, heuristic assessments).
• Experience in design software like Figma, Miro, Sketch, Axure RP, Balsamiq, Lucidchart, Adobe XD or similar.
• Must have an active Secret U.S Government security clearance and be a U.S. citizen; on-site work a minimum of 3 days/week.

Responsibilities

• Lead human-centered design from research through concept, interaction design, prototyping, usability evaluation, and refinement.
• Use AI-assisted design tools to generate, evaluate, and refine interface concepts for usability, safety, and mission needs.
• Elicit and translate user, operational, and system requirements into human factors design inputs aligned with systems engineering.
• Provide technical guidance to small multidisciplinary teams including other HFE/UX engineers and developers.
• Collaborate with sponsors, researchers, and project leaders to ensure design impact and end-user focus.
• Advocate for end-users and maintain design systems and UI guidelines; document research and proposals.
• Mentor early career team members and promote continuous learning and improvement.
