Job summary

Mars is seeking an experienced Site HSE Manager in Gainesville to lead safety, health, environmental, and security programs across the site. You will protect people and assets, ensure OSHA/EPA/DOT compliance, and drive policy innovation while fostering a proactive safety culture.

The role demands deep leadership, strong regulatory knowledge, and hands-on IH monitoring, with responsibilities spanning audits, permits, risk management, and contractor safety.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in Occupational Safety & Health, Environmental Engineering/Science, Industrial Hygiene, or related field.
• 10–15 years’ experience implementing safety, environmental and/or industrial hygiene programs in manufacturing.
• 7+ years HSE leadership in manufacturing, supply chain, or industrial operations.
• Working knowledge of DOT regulations for hazardous materials handling and shipping.
• Experience managing environmental permits (Air, Stormwater, Wastewater, SPCC, Hazardous Waste).
• Proven root cause analysis and CAPA implementation experience.
• Hands-on industrial hygiene monitoring and injury case management.
• Experience evaluating process safety hazards and high‑fire risk operations.
• Ability to influence across multiple levels without direct reporting lines.
• Experience managing contractor safety programs and site security operations.
• Data-driven HSE management with KPI reporting to senior leadership.

Responsibilities

• Define the site’s HSE vision and lead Safety Pillar within TPM/MSE frameworks.
• Maintain an audit-ready state with 100% OSHA/EPA/DOT compliance.
• Oversee environmental permits and hazardous waste handling/shipment compliance.
• Lead risk prediction and mitigation for process hazards and high-risk operations.
• Direct investigations of HSE incidents and drive CAPA and cross-site learnings.
• Champion Behavior-Based Safety and train/influence without direct authority.
• Partner with Health & Wellness teams on injury cases and IH monitoring.
• Oversee Site Emergency Organization readiness and site security operations.
• Own Contractor Safety Management and collaborate on HSE reviews for projects.
• Recruit and mentor the HSE team and manage budgets.
