Job summary

The Enoch Pratt Free Library is seeking a Deputy Director of Human Resources to lead the HR department and report to the Chief People Officer. You will supervise HR staff, guide HR programs, and align operations with the library’s strategic direction.

This senior role oversees recruitment, benefits, learning, performance management, leave administration, HR systems, and employee engagement while ensuring compliance with laws, CBAs, and organizational policies.

Qualifications

Bachelor’s degree in Human Resources Management, Business Administration, Public Administration, Organizational Development, Labor Relations, or closely related field.
Eight years of progressively responsible professional HR experience across multiple HR functions.
SHRM-CP or PHR certification required.
Three years of direct supervisory or management experience.
Experience in a unionized environment with collective bargaining agreement interpretation and grievances.
Experience across employee relations, labor relations, recruitment, benefits, performance management, learning & development, or HR operations.

Responsibilities

Provides overall leadership and direction to HR staff and is accountable for performance, service delivery, and professional development.
Manages day-to-day HR operations, establishing priorities, workflows, service standards, and expectations.
Ensures HR services are compliant with laws, City requirements, CBAs, and policies.
Develops and maintains relationships with Pratt leaders, managers, employees, unions, and stakeholders.
Oversees recruitment, onboarding, benefits administration, learning, and engagement initiatives.
