Job summary

The Enoch Pratt Free Library in Baltimore seeks a Manager of the African American Department for the Central branch. This on-site role leads planning, programming, and statewide coordination of African American library services within SLRC.

Strong leadership, public service focus, and academic background required. Responsibilities include staff supervision, strategic planning, and collaboration with statewide committees and donor relations.

Qualifications

• MLS/MLIS from an American Library Association accredited college or university.
• Public Librarian Certificate, or requirements necessary to apply for a Maryland Public Librarian Certificate, within 90 days of starting employment.
• Background in African America History, African American Studies, or related subject area.
• 4 years of library or museum experience.
• Two years of planning, programming, and supervisory experience in a public library, museum, or similar setting.
• Two years of management or supervisory experience.
• Experience in developing programs for information delivery.

Responsibilities

• Plan, manage, and coordinate city and statewide activities for the department.
• Monitor staff performance and foster staff development.
• Prepare reports, analyze statistics, and respond to trends.
• Design, implement, and evaluate department programming and outreach statewide.
• Support donor relations and reporting through Institutional Advancement.
• Represent the library in statewide meetings and conferences.
