Job summary

State of Montana is seeking a Senior HR Generalist to support the Department of Public Health and Human Services. This senior role leads HR initiatives, advises managers on coaching and discipline, and collaborates with HR partners to reduce turnover and improve performance.

The position reports to an HR Manager, with telework options limited and a focus on agency-embedded guidance across divisions. A background check will be conducted.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in human resources, business administration, public administration, social sciences or related field.
• Four years of progressively responsible HR experience including labor relations, coaching and progressive discipline, investigations, workforce planning, recruitment, compensation/classification, employee development, organizational strategy, FMLA and risk management.
• Alternative combinations of education and experience may be considered.

Responsibilities

• Lead HR efforts to improve recruitment, retention and employee engagement for the agency.
• Counsel managers on coaching, progressive discipline and employee relations matters.
• Provide expertise on HR policy, planning and special projects, and guide supervisors and HR partners.
