Job summary

The Wolseley New York Hotel seeks a Chief Engineer (w/m/d) to lead the Engineering function, ensuring safe, efficient and reliable operation of all building systems while delivering guest comfort and safety.

You will direct preventive maintenance, capital projects and compliance activities, manage a unionised team, oversee budgets, and collaborate with hotel leadership to uphold the highest standards of service.

Qualifications

• Minimum 5 years’ experience in hotel engineering operations.
• Strong knowledge of HVAC, electrical and plumbing systems.
• FSLD certification required.
• In-depth knowledge of NYC building codes and regulations.
• Experience working in a union environment preferred.

Responsibilities

• Ensure full compliance with fire, health and safety legislation, including OSHA, FDNY and DOB requirements.
• Guarantee that all fire, life and safety systems are fully operational and compliant.
• Plan and oversee preventive maintenance, renovations and technical projects with minimal disruption to hotel operations.
• Lead capital projects and act as main liaison with contractors, vendors and ownership representatives.
• Drive energy efficiency initiatives and cost-saving measures.
• Prepare and manage the Engineering budget in collaboration with Finance.
• Lead and develop a unionised engineering team, managing scheduling, overtime and staffing in line with union agreements.
• Build strong working relationships with union representatives.
• Support security operations in coordination with hotel leadership, where applicable.
• Maintain detailed documentation for inspections, permits and certifications.
• Stay current with technical and regulatory developments in the engineering field.
