Senior Hospital Care Investigator - Transfer Opportunity for Permanent Incumbents (Sr. HCIs) and/or Promotional Opportunity for Permanent HCIs Only (Provisional Appointment)

Job Description

Purpose:

A member of the Revenue Cycle process, the Inpatient Financial Counselor’s primary responsibility is to work with patients and families in the inpatient setting to identify and obtain coverage for uninsured or under insured patients. Key roles include interviewing patients and families to determine coverage eligibility, submitting applications for insurance coverage, and following-up on applications through resolution.

Specific Duties and Responsibilities:

The identification of essential functions below is not intended to be an exhaustive list of all duties that may be assigned to this position, nor does it restrict the duties which may be assigned to the position within the revenue cycle process.

• Supervises a unit engaged in medical assistance, investigation activities, assigning and controlling the flow of work, training and advising subordinates in difficult matters, evaluating staff and recommending appropriate personnel action when indicated.
• Reviews applications and determines eligibility for other medical assistance.
• Reviews all admissions for correctness.
• Meets with supervisor and/or staff on a weekly basis to address any issues within the department.
• Reviews staff work on a daily basis and provide feedback for improvement.
• Provides training on H+H options, NYC Care, Marketplace and AIM to ensure the HCI is completing their task correctly.
• Corrects and updates workqueues to ensure clean bills being processed in a timely matter.
• In absence of HCI, Senior HCI will fill in for missing HCI, when needed.
• Performs all duties, as assigned by the Patient Accounts Director or Manager.
• Perform all duties in alignment with the mission, vision, values, and behavioral expectations of NYC Health + Hospitals.

Minimum Qualifications

Six months of service as a Hospital Care Investigator.

Department Preferences

• Knowledge— EPIC H2O Registration, Billing and Collections and/or Financial Counseling experience.

• Skill— Valid Certified Application Counselor Certification (CAC) preferred, being a certified Hospital Care Investigator.

• Ability— Soft Customer Service skills that are required e.g., ICARE, communication and problem solving.
