Job summary

Washington University in St. Louis (WashU) AMP Core Laboratory seeks a highly motivated Histotechnologist to support diagnostic and translational pathology workflows. The role involves processing, embedding, cutting, staining tissues, and performing IHC and molecular procedures in a fast-paced academic lab.

You will collaborate with pathologists, researchers, and transplant services, with after-hours rotations and on-call coverage as part of duties.

Qualifications

  • Education: Bachelor’s degree or combination of education and/or experience may substitute for minimum education.
  • Certifications/Professional Licenses: No specific certification/professional license is required for this position.
  • Work Experience: Histology (2 Years)
  • Skills: Not Applicable
  • Driver's License: A driver's license is not required for this position.

Responsibilities

  • Prepares histology sections using tissue processing and frozen section techniques to embed, cut, and stain tissue specimens.
  • Prepares and changes solutions and reagents.
  • Performs automated and manual immunohistochemistry assays.
  • Performs histochemical staining.
  • Gross biopsy specimens on an as needed basis.
  • Performs molecular pathology technical procedures.
  • Provides rotational frozen after-hour service for Mid-America Transplant Services.
  • Troubleshoots procedural and technical problems.
  • Help maintain supply and chemical inventories.
  • Applies standard operating procedures and protocols under supervision.
  • Performs data entry of patient and specimen information and documents all assays.
  • Complies with regulatory requirements for patient testing and documentation with safety procedures.
  • Ensures lab conditions and equipment are cleaned and maintained; records kept per procedures.
  • Acts as a technical resource for students, trainees and residents.
  • Assists supervisor with other duties and special projects.
