This is a senior, hands‑on histology role designed for an experienced professional who values technical ownership, autonomy, and consistency in their day-to-day work. You will play a key role in supporting diagnostic tissue preparation in a newly launched laboratory environment, with the opportunity to help establish reliable workflows and best practices from the ground up.

Senior Histology Technicians in this role are trusted to work independently, deliver high-quality histology output, and serve as a steady technical presence as the laboratory ramps up operations.

Why This Role:
  • Senior, hands‑on histology role with real autonomy and ownership
  • Opportunity to help build and shape a new laboratory site from the ground up
  • Trusted technical authority without immediate people‑management expectations
  • Long‑term growth potential as the laboratory expands
  • This role is well-suited for an experienced histology professional who wants to focus on doing excellent work, be trusted for their judgment, and contribute meaningfully to a growth‑stage laboratory without being pulled into early management responsibilities.
About the Client:

This Client is a Medical and Diagnostic Laboratories organization specializing in digital pathology and sub‑specialty diagnostic services. The organization partners with physician practices, physician‑owned laboratories, hospitals, and healthcare systems nationwide.

The Client’s mission is to improve patient care and outcomes by delivering advanced sub‑specialty diagnostics and state‑of‑the‑art technology. Services include digital pathology diagnostics, hospital pathology support, and affordable digital pathology software solutions provided without any capital investment, supporting modern and efficient laboratory workflows.

As part of continued expansion, the Client is launching a new laboratory location in Vermont and is seeking a highly autonomous professional to support both technical and operational success.

Key Responsibilities:
Hands‑On Histology

Perform histology procedures, including tissue processing support, embedding, microtomy, staining (routine and special stains), slide preparation, and quality review.

  • Cut sections of body tissues for microscopic examination using microtomes.
  • Embed tissue specimens into paraffin wax blocks and mount specimens on glass slides.
  • Stain tissue specimens with dyes or other chemicals to make cellular detail visible for diagnostic evaluation.
  • Operate and maintain histology laboratory equipment, including microtomes, tissue processors, embedding centers, and automated stainers.
  • Identify and troubleshoot bench‑level technical issues that may impact specimen quality or turnaround time.
Quality, Documentation, and Safety
  • Accurately document specimen handling and testing information in laboratory systems and logs.
  • Follow established laboratory policies, procedures, and safety protocols when handling biological specimens and chemicals.
  • Participate in quality control activities to ensure consistency and compliance with laboratory standards.
  • Communicate clearly with laboratory leadership and pathology personnel regarding specimen quality issues, rework needs, or workflow constraints.
What Success Looks Like (First 90 Days)
  • Consistent production of high-quality histology slides meeting laboratory standards.
  • Independent proficiency across core histology techniques, including embedding, microtomy, and staining.
  • Reliable adherence to documentation, quality, and safety requirements.
  • Stable, well‑organized daily workflow with clear expectations and support from leadership.
