Job summary

Labcorp is seeking a Histotechnologist to join our Histology team in Shelton, CT. This role processes tissue samples and prepares slides for microscopic examination with a focus on accuracy and timely result reporting.

The candidate will perform immunohistochemical tests, operate laboratory equipment, and maintain quality control in a high-volume setting. A Bachelor’s degree is required and ASCP certification is preferred.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in Histology or closely related field with histology experience.
• Minimum 1 year histology experience.
• ASCP certification preferred but not required.

Responsibilities

• Process human tissue and body fluid specimens for microscopic examination.
• Prepare histopathology slides from surgical specimens and embedded tissue.
• Section tissue with a microtome and mount sections on slides.
• Perform immunohistochemical tests on formalin-fixed paraffin-embedded tissues.
• Perform routine and special staining procedures and document results.
• Maintain equipment, run quality control, and record logs accurately.
• Adhere to QC policies and laboratory procedures for specimen handling and reporting.

Labcorp is seeking a Histotechnologist to join our Histology team in Shelton, CT.

Sign-On Bonus $7,500 (External Candidates Only)

Work Schedule: Tuesday - Saturday 3:00 pm - 11:30 pm

Job Responsibilities

• Process human tissue and body fluid specimens in preparation for microscopic exam
• Perform technical duties related to the production of histopathological slides of surgical specimens
• Section the embedded tissue, using a microtome and mount the section properly on a microscope slide
• Perform various immunohistochemical tests on formalin fixed paraffin embedded tissue sections
• Process mounted sections through routine and special staining procedures
• Properly orient and embed surgical tissue specimens
• Prepare the stains and reagents needed for special procedures
• Report accurate and timely test results in order to deliver quality patient care
• Operate and maintain manual and automated instruments
• Perform and document equipment maintenance as needed
• Record equipment log data in an accurate and timely manner
• Perform and document preventive maintenance and quality control procedures
• Adhere to the laboratory's quality control policies
• Follow the laboratory's procedures for specimen handling and processing, analysis and reporting
• Document problems that may affect test performance and perform corrective actions as needed

Minimum Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in Histology OR a Bachelor’s degree in a Chemical or Biological science, Histology, Clinical Laboratory Science or Medical Technology with 1 or more years of histology experience.

Preferred Qualifications

• 3 months or more of histology experience
• 3 months or more of Immunohistochemistry experience
• Histology and/or ASCP certifications

Additional Job Standards

• In lieu of education requirements listed above, non-traditional degrees with applicable science credits that meet CLIA standards may meet education requirements
• Comfortability embedding both large and small specimens
• Understanding of laboratory operations as well as policies and procedures
• Experience working in a high volume laboratory environment
• Ability to work independently and within a team environment
• Proficient with computers; Familiarity with laboratory information systems
• High level of attention to detail along with strong communication and organizational skills
• Ability to handle the physical requirements of the position
• Able to pass a standardized color blindness test
• Flexibility to work overtime or other shifts depending on business needs
