Job summary

The South Carolina Department of Public Safety is seeking an experienced First Line Supervisor for SCHP to oversee patrol operations in Abbeville and Greenwood counties. You will supervise troopers, enforce traffic and criminal laws, and coordinate schedules and training under the Post command.

Requirements include a high school diploma, 5+ years of law enforcement service, SCHP rank/status, and residency within the designated area.

Qualifications

• High school diploma required.
• Minimum five (5) years Certified Law Enforcement Service Time.
• Minimum six (6) months of continuous service as SCHP Lance Corporal or current rank SCHP Master Trooper by vacancy closing.
• Promotional Examination score of 70 or higher within two years of closing date.
• Promotional Interview Panel completed within two years of closing date.
• Residence within four months of effective date per residency policy.
• SC Class I Law Enforcement Officer certification required.

Responsibilities

• Supervises officers in performance of duties and ensures SOP compliance.
• Patrols and enforces SC motor vehicle laws and other state laws as needed.
• Reviews activity reports, collision investigation reports, citations, and statements for accuracy.
• Assists in presenting and prosecuting cases in court; serves as expert witness.
• Prepares daily schedules and work assignments; reviews subordinate performance.
• Maintains equipment and ensures proper maintenance by subordinates.
• Provides guidance to subordinates in emergency management operations and crowd control.
• Develops relationships with public, other agencies, courts, and SCDPS personnel.
• Performs other duties as directed.
