Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Civil Engineering required.
  • 10+ years highway design/transportation engineering experience.
  • Professional Engineer (PE) license in New Jersey or eligible by reciprocity within a year.
  • Proficiency with CAD software for roadway design (MicroStation/InRoads/OpenRoads).

Responsibilities

  • Lead highway and roadway design teams on planning and design tasks, managing scope, schedule, budget and deliverables.
  • Develop highway alignments, profiles, sections, grading and safety improvements per NJTA/NJDOT/AASHTO standards.
  • Coordinate with project managers, clients and multidisciplinary teams to meet objectives and budget.
  • Evaluate roadways for safety improvements, plan MPT needs and temporary traffic management during construction.
  • Ensure designs comply with regulatory standards and prepare technical reports and plans using CAD software.
  • Generate quantity takeoffs, cost estimates and project specifications per client requirements.

Compensation: $105,000 - $145,000 / year

Description

Artheon is seeking a highly motivated Senior Highway Engineer to join our team in Berlin or East Brunswick, NJ. The ideal candidate will have approximately 10+ years of industry experience in highway design and transportation engineering. The successful candidate should have experience with design and plan production using one or more of the following: AutoDesk Civil3D, Bentley MicroStation, Bentley OpenRoads Designer, and Bentley InRoads. An ideal candidate with this experience may be more Task Leader, more management focused, or be more technical engineering/subject matter expert focused, or a combination of both.

As a Senior Highway Engineer, you will work on a variety of transportation infrastructure projects, including roadway design, intersection improvements, and safety enhancements. This is an excellent opportunity to contribute to impactful projects and grow within a well-established consulting firm.

Responsibilities
  • Task Leader: Lead highway and roadway design teams on planning and design tasks. Manage tasks including design within project scope, schedule, budget, staffing and deliverable.
  • Highway and Roadway Design Subject Matter Expert: Develop highway alignments and profiles, typical sections, grading, cross-sections, and safety improvements including guide rail and median barrier design in accordance with NJTA, NJDOT and AASHTO standards.
  • Project Coordination: Collaborate with project managers, clients, and multidisciplinary teams to ensure project objectives are met efficiently and within budget.
  • Safety Improvements and Maintenance and Protection of Traffic: Evaluate existing roadways for safety improvements, including existing signage and striping. Develop the MPT needs for construction projects to manage traffic flow safely during construction, including barrier placement, construction signage, and temporary striping.
  • Regulatory Compliance: Ensure designs comply with NJTA, NJDOT, AASHTO, and local transportation agency regulations.
  • Plan Development and Software Utilization: Prepare technical reports, plans using CAD software, with preference for MicroStation in accordance with NJTA and NJDOT standards.
  • Project Delivery: Perform quantity takeoff calculations, prepare cost estimates and prepare project specifications to client requirements.
Qualifications
  • Education: Bachelor’s degree in Civil Engineering or a related field.
  • Experience: 10+ years of industry experience in highway design or transportation engineering.
  • Certification/License: Professional Engineer (PE) license in New Jersey or ability to obtain through reciprocity within a year, required
  • Technical Skills: Proficiency in MicroStation InRoads or OpenRoads (preferred) or other CAD software for roadway design.
  • Knowledge: Familiarity with NJTA, NJDOT, and AASHTO design standards and guidelines.
  • Communication: Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to effectively communicate with clients, agency representatives, project teams, and project managers.

Final compensation will be determined based on factors such as experience, skills, qualifications, internal equity, and geographic location.
