Job summary

Artheon is seeking a Highway Engineer to join our Transportation team in East Brunswick, NJ. The ideal candidate will have 5+ years of highway design and transportation engineering experience and proficiency with CAD tools such as Civil3D, MicroStation, or OpenRoads.

Responsibilities include highway alignments, safety improvements, plan development, and regulatory compliance with NJ standards. PE/EIT licensure in NJ is preferred, with strong collaboration across disciplines.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Civil Engineering or related field.
  • 5+ years of highway design or transportation engineering experience.
  • EIT or PE licensure in New Jersey preferred.
  • Proficiency with CAD tools: Civil3D, MicroStation or OpenRoads.
  • Familiarity with NJTA, NJDOT, and AASHTO standards.

Responsibilities

  • Highway and roadway design including alignments, profiles, and safety improvements.
  • Coordinate with project managers, clients, and multidisciplinary teams.
  • Evaluate roadways for safety improvements and manage traffic during construction.
  • Ensure compliance with NJTA, NJDOT, AASHTO and local regulations.
  • Prepare technical reports and plans using CAD software; estimate costs.

Compensation: $90,000 - $115,000 / year

Description

Artheon is seeking a highly motivated Highway Engineer to join our team in Berlin, NJ. The ideal candidate will have at over 5 years of industry experience in highway design and transportation engineering. The successful candidate should have experience with design and plan production using one or more of the following: AutoDesk Civil3D, Bentley MicroStation, and Bentley OpenRoads Designer or Bentley InRoads.

As a Highway Engineer, you will work on a variety of transportation infrastructure projects, including roadway design, intersection improvements, and safety enhancements. This is an excellent opportunity to contribute to impactful projects and grow within a well-established consulting firm.

Key Responsibilities
  • Highway and Roadway Design: Develop highway alignments and profiles, typical sections, cross-sections, and safety improvements including guide rail and median barrier design in accordance with NJTA, NJDOT and AASHTO standards.
  • Project Coordination: Collaborate with project managers, clients, and multidisciplinary teams to ensure project objectives are met efficiently and within budget.
  • Safety Improvements and Maintenance and Protection of Traffic: Evaluate existing roadways for safety improvements, including existing signage and striping. Develop the MPT needs for construction projects to manage traffic flow safely during construction, including barrier placement, construction signage, and temporary striping.
  • Regulatory Compliance: Ensure designs comply with NJTA, NJDOT, AASHTO, and local transportation agency regulations.
  • Plan Development and Software Utilization: Prepare technical reports, plans using CAD software, with preference for MicroStation, specifications, and cost estimates in accordance with NJTA and NJDOT standards.
Skills, Knowledge and Expertise
  • Education: Bachelor’s degree in Civil Engineering or a related field.
  • Experience: 5+ years of industry experience in highway design or transportation engineering.
  • Certification/License: Engineer-in-Training (EIT) or Professional Engineer (PE) licensed in New Jersey preferred (or ability to obtain in the near future).
  • Technical Skills: Proficiency in MicroStation InRoads or OpenRoads (preferred) or other CAD software for roadway design.
  • Knowledge: Familiarity with NJTA, NJDOT, and AASHTO design standards and guidelines.
