Job summary

Volkert, a Top 100 design firm, seeks a Director of Roadway/Civil Engineering for its Mid Atlantic Region in Virginia. The role requires leadership of a senior team, managing roadway contracts, and pursuing project opportunities. A PE license in VA and 20+ years of civil engineering experience are required.

The successful candidate will lead design reviews, collaborate across disciplines, and drive client satisfaction while ensuring safety and compliance with regulations.

Qualifications

• Requires a Bachelor of Science in Civil Engineering or related field.
• Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
• Experience leading professional staff and coordinating across departments.
• Proven ability to manage multiple roadway/civil contracts.
• Strong problem-solving and client-management abilities.

Responsibilities

• Lead, manage and grow a team of professional staff and coordinate with other departments to achieve project, program and regional goals.
• Oversee senior management and oversight of roadway/civil contracts.
• Identify and pursue roadway project/contract opportunities for standard and alternative delivery.
• Oversee and participate in design and review of roadway plan development for transportation projects.
