Job summary

Sandia National Laboratories seeks a Senior/Principal R&D Physics scientist to lead high-energy-density research at the Z Facility. You will plan and conduct experiments, collaborate with multidisciplinary teams, and publish findings to advance national security science.

This onsite role requires a PhD or equivalent with expertise in x-ray diagnostics, HED experiments, and collaboration. The team offers relocation help, strong benefits, and flexible work arrangements where possible.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in a relevant discipline and five years of directly relevant experience; ability to conduct independent R&D.
• Graduate degree (PhD) in Physics or related field with independent research project.
• Experience disseminating research via presentations/publications.

Responsibilities

• Plan, conceive, and conduct research and development for Sandia's customers and sponsors.
• Collaborate in integrated teams to plan research and analyze data.
• Lead development of new methods and technologies in high-energy-density physics.
• Publish findings and interact with the academic community.
• Direct experiments on large-scale facilities like Z, NIF, or Omega.
