Job summary

Independence Excavating, Inc. is seeking a Heavy Equipment Mechanic to keep our fleet of Cat, Komatsu, and John Deere machines performing at peak efficiency on demanding heavy civil projects.

You will diagnose and repair mechanical, electrical, hydraulic, and emissions systems; perform preventive maintenance; and collaborate with project teams to ensure safe, reliable operation across multiple sites.

Qualifications

• Minimum of 2 years of recent experience or training in vehicle/construction equipment repair and maintenance.
• Proficiency diagnosing mechanical, electrical, and hydraulic issues.
• Hydraulic specialist with experience using diagnostic equipment.
• Strong welding and fabrication skills (acetylene and electric arc).
• Physical ability to lift up to 60 pounds and work outdoors in varying weather.
• Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
• Flexibility to work extended hours, weekends, holidays, and occasional overtime.
• Willingness to travel and hold a CDL with clean driving record.

Responsibilities

• Diagnose and repair mechanical, electrical, hydraulic, and emission issues.
• Troubleshoot computer and wiring problems on equipment.
• Conduct Tier 4 emissions diagnostics and repairs.
• Perform inspections and preventive maintenance to ensure reliability.
• Handle equipment teardowns and rebuilds for mobilization.
• Repair buckets and attachments as needed for projects.
• Document repairs with detailed work orders and notes.
• Collaborate with project teams to prioritize repairs and optimize efficiency.
• Uphold safety policies and maintain devices and safety systems.
• Weld and fabricate as required.
